Does anyone have any suggestions on how I may start my own business in either natural beauty products or natural health products? Something along the lines of Avon (EVERYone sells Avon). It should also be affordable for the average person. I can’t put a lot of money into starting one (I was downsized several months ago, so I need to watch my spending). It needs to be a product I can believe in, is healthy, and something that would be beneficial to the average person. Thanks!

The corporate offices of Watkins are here in my town, so I’m pretty familiar with their products – they’re pretty available, so I use them all the time. The company sells all kinds of things, but they focus on foods (there are several organic spices in their line), personal care (not necessarily all-natural, but still good), medicinals (they have several dietary supplements and over-the-counter remedies) and home care (they just unveiled a new line of natural cleaning products).
I’ve met people who have sold Watkins products before and they all agree you can make money if you want to. I checked, and the cost of the smallest starter kit is $ 59.95 + shipping/tax, but they have bigger kits if you want to buy some inventory at the same time. It looks like you get a 25% discount and then depending on your sales volume, there’s potential for a bonus.
From what I’ve gathered, Watkins bills themselves more as a high-quality product company rather than an “all-natural” or “organic” company, although they do have both types of products throughout their lines. But, if you wanted to focus on natural products, you might want to look to see if they have enough of them to fit your needs. The products that I’ve tried really are pretty fantastic, though. This is one of those MLM deals where you do home shows, you have a little inventory and do catalogue sales, and what you do is you get a bunch of people together (generally women, but some guys are interested in skin care products), and they will try various treatments and lotions…basically what you provide is the samples, you get a hostess to host the show and she gets free product depending on how much is ordered, you get a percentage of the sales and it’s generally a pretty generous percentage. I don’t know all the details off hand, my wife knows a consultant and she could certainly find out. Let me know if you’d like me to find out more information about this company or not. I know the stuff isn’t dirt cheap, but it’s also not overpriced. It’s all natural products made with essential oils and such, and it works really well, smells nice and there’s a huge selection…it’s definitely not priced out of the hands of the ordinary consumer. I think it’s probably exactly what you described, but like I said, I only know what I know second hand, so if you want more info, please let me know and I’ll have my wife talk to her friend who is a consultant and find out how someone can get into this, what the start up costs are, etc.
